Chapel has been designed to improve programmer productivity on large-scale machinesby simplifying the creation of parallel programs; by teasing details related to architectural mapping away from the overall expression of parallel algorithms; and by permitting end-users to specify their own implementations of key parallel features such as array distributions and layouts, parallel iteration strategies, and architectural models. While Cray has spearheaded the Chapel project, the language and its implementation have been designed from the outset with portability in mind, supporting execution on multicore laptops and desktops, commodity clusters, and large-scale HPC systems developed by Cray and other vendors. For the Emerging Technologies track and booth, we intend to provide posters, presentations, and staffing that present an overview of the project.
