This system is based on the big core strategy targeting higher sustained performance. It provides both the world's highest single core performance of 64GFlops and the world's highest memory bandwidth per core of 64GBytes/s. Four cores, memory controllers, and network controllers are integrated into a single CPU LSI, enabling the CPU performance of 256GFlops and the memory bandwidth of 256GBytes/s. Moreover, in order to boost the performance of memory-intensive applications, each CPU core is designed to exploit the whole memory bandwidth of a CPU (256GBytes/s). This brand-new system is quite beneficial to real scientific and engineering applications. NEC continues to pursue higher effective performance on real applications.
