DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:ABSTRACT: The current uncoordinated development model of independently applying optimizations at each layer of the I/O software stack on High End Computing platforms will most likely not scale to the expected levels of concurrency, storage hierarchy, and capacity of future Exascale systems. The main goal of CLARISSE project is to investigate a radical new approach of reforming the I/O software stack in order to simplify the development of storage I/O optimizations and facilitate the development of Exascale systems. CLARISSE project will propose novel abstractions and mechanisms for cross-layer monitoring and control of the software I/O stack. More exactly, CLARISSE will explore: the cross-layer dissemination of run-time information throughout the I/O software stack, the cross-layer dynamic shipping of I/O functionality for load balancing, the adaptive control of the I/O data path, and the cross-layer dynamic exploitation of the data locality in the storage hierarchy.
